TIS Receives Full CIS Accreditation!
The International School of Macao (TIS) is pleased to announce that it has officially received full accreditation from the Council of International Schools (CIS) on February 4, 2026. This prestigious accreditation signifies that TIS has reached world-class standards in core areas such as educational philosophy, curriculum implementation, student well-being, and governance structure, further solidifying its position as a leading international school in the Greater Bay Area.
CIS is one of the world's most influential international school accreditation bodies. Its assessment standards are rigorous, covering multiple dimensions including school mission, teaching quality, leadership, community engagement, and mechanisms for continuous improvement. The accreditation review report documented that out of all 59 CIS standards, TIS was found to be fully meeting 56 standards, with two standards rated as "exceeding expectations." At the same time, the review committee noted that three standards were "partially met," and the school is committed to addressing these areas by developing actionable plans to enhance its educational services.
The CIS accreditation process may have four possible outcomes:
A: Award accreditation
B: Award accreditation with specific matters to be addressed within a set time period
C: Postpone accreditation
D: No award of accreditation
"I am delighted to announce that we have successfully achieved CIS accreditation with no conditions attached." TIS Head of School Lorne Schmidt remarked "This is the result of a collective effort and the dedication of our entire team."
He further emphasised that this accreditation not only recognises the school’s past achievements but also serves as a launching pad for pursuing even higher educational objectives.
As a multicultural school serving over 1,300 students from more than 40 countries and regions, TIS has long been committed to providing high-quality education that integrates the Alberta curriculum and the International Baccalaureate (IB). In recent years, the school has received multiple accolades in STEAM education, artificial intelligence, arts innovation, and student agency development, including the "Student Agency Award" at the 2025 Greater Bay Area School Awards. TIS actively promotes community engagement through various initiatives, such as inter-school art exhibitions, university fairs, and open days, among others.
With CIS accreditation, TIS will further deepen its global education network, providing students with broader international perspectives and learning opportunities. The School remains committed to cultivating socially responsible, life long learners able to think critically, and make positive changes in the community.
