TIS Hosts Alberta Education Evaluation Visit

The International School of Macao (TIS) recently welcomed Mr. Real Hryhirchuk, the Alberta Accredited International Schools Lead at Alberta Education, for a scheduled evaluation visit. In a continued effort to maintain the highest standards of education, all Alberta accredited international schools are required to have comprehensive onsite visits every three years, alongside annual monitoring and evaluations.

The Alberta Education system is renowned for its internationally recognized curriculum which emphasizes high academic standards, a wide range of course options, innovative teaching practices, and a commitment to student engagement, serving as a model for educational excellence worldwide. TIS has been accredited with Alberta Education since 2006, receiving Tier 4 status, the highest level of accreditation an Alberta Internationally Accredited school can receive, in 2017. According to the Handbook for Alberta Accredited Schools, “Alberta Education recognizes Tier 4 as leading‐edge schools that make a difference for students and go beyond the standards expected of every school.” These standards encompass strong academic performance, diverse educational programs with optional offerings, extracurricular activities, collaboration opportunities at local, national, and international levels, as well as professional development for all staff.

During his week-long visit, Mr. Hryhirchuk interacted with staff, students, TIS parents’ association, and school leadership, visiting every department and school division, conducting a thorough evaluation of teaching practices and diversity of educational programming. His observations provided valuable insights into the operational successes of TIS.

At the conclusion of his visit, Mr. Hryhirchuk expressed his admiration for the progress TIS has made in recent years. He commended the school’s commitment to continuous improvement and provided constructive suggestions aimed at further enhancing the school’s educational offerings.
