This vision statement outlines our aspirations for preparing students for the future. You will notice that it focuses on building traits that produce positive outcomes, as opposed to statements that merely promote pursuit of high academic attainment. We aim to nurture students who have a strong desire for personal growth, as well as an impetus to contribute toward addressing future challenges.
With numerous industries incorporating generative AI to assist in their workflow, it is highly important that we prepare students for a world that continues to change at an accelerating rate. While learning how to use and best leverage technology to our greatest advantage is vital, there are many other skills that our students must be equipped with for future success. The demand will be for people that have enhanced levels of creativity, intuition and empathy, in order to address tasks and challenges effectively. Many of the solutions to future challenges will require innovative thinking, and it is essential to develop students’ confidence as they confront these challenges.

At TIS, we approach the achievement of our vision and mission statements in a variety of ways. Our internationally accredited Alberta and IB curriculum ensures that students are gaining the required knowledge and are learning skills for future academic success. Teachers and students leverage upon technology in daily learning activities and infusion of STEAM projects that have curricular connections deepens not only content knowledge but also promotes development of critical thinking, problem solving, creativity, innovation, communication and collaboration.
Inquiry based learning is a key to our teaching and learning approach. Teaching students the skills of effective inquiry provides them with a dynamic and engaging learning experience. This builds students’ confidence to explore topics to a greater degree, leading to deeper learning than a passive transfer of content information from teacher to student, and sets the stage for life-long learning.
Our TIS Community Action program focuses upon the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, while our Experience Week programs provide real world contexts for authentic learning. Through these curricular connections and initiatives, students of all ages become aware of global challenges and are empowered to address them.
