Greater Bay Area Honor Band Concert Showcases TIS Student Talent
Twelve musicians from The International School of Macao (TIS) recently participated in the Greater Bay Area Honor Band concert, joining peers from across the region for a weekend of collaboration and performance. Guided by Mr. Tommy So and Ms. Iris Chu, our students represented TIS with skill, creativity, and dedication.
Student Highlights
Kiki (Grade 12) performed Shostakovich’s piano concerto with confidence and artistry, earning recognition from conductor Dr. Buie, a music professor from Boise State University, for her brilliant technique.
Cloris (Grade 12) shared her versatility by performing on both the bamboo flute and Western flute in Yao Dance, with Dr. Buie commending her stunning and expressive playing.
Our Grade 8 trio – Niel, Edward, and Nichelle impressed with their teamwork and energy, performing alongside older peers with maturity.
Ms. Iris Chu commends all of our participating students — Kiki, Lucas, Cloris, Diana, Natalie, Venita, Amy, Prudence, Aryanna, Niel, Edward, and Nichelle — for their commitment, teamwork, and strong performances throughout the event. Each student contributed to the success of the concert and demonstrated the value of practice, perseverance, and collaboration.
At TIS, we believe music is more than performance. It is an opportunity to connect with others, to grow in confidence, and to discover new ways of expressing ourselves. Experiences like the Honor Band concert highlight the joy of sharing art, the importance of cultural exchange, and the lifelong value of creativity.
This marks the 3rd consecutive year that TIS students have been selected for the Greater Bay Area Honor Band — a proud tradition that reflects both their dedication and the strength of our music program.
We extend our thanks to CIS Guangzhou and NCPA/GUIS for hosting this special event, and to conductor Dr. Buie for inspiring our students with his leadership and encouragement.
