TIS Elementary Experience Week 2026
Our Elementary students made the most of TIS Experience Week, taking on hands-on projects, stepping outside of their comfort zones, and building practical skills, confidence, and a deeper sense of community.
Grade 4
Grade 4 focused on SDG Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being, investigating how the environment affects both human and animal health, looking into pollution, carbon dioxide, water filtration, and the food pyramid. They brought these lessons to Ocean Park in Hong Kong, to study how healthy ecosystems support food chains and clean water. While here, they spent the night beside the large indoor aquarium, observing marine life up close.
Grade 5
Grade 5 students focused on developing transferable skills by putting their IB learner profile attributes into action. In Hong Kong, they kayaked and hiked as a team, demonstrating their Communicator, Thinker and Risk-Taker attributes. At an organic farm, they learned sustainable farming techniques and environmental care, showcasing Caring, Principled and Reflective attributes.
Grade 6
Grade 6 travelled to Qingyuan, China, where they immersed themselves in local culture and took on new challenges. They explored the Peng Family Ancestral Hall, a Qing‑Dynasty example of traditional Chinese architecture, and climbed through ancient karst mountains and caves, discovering stalagmites and stalactites, and navigating intricate tunnels that pushed them beyond their comfort zones. Students also joined a bamboo‑rice workshop, discovering firsthand the uses and benefits of bamboo and practising new hands-on skills.
Across all grades, TIS Experience Week translates classroom learning into real-world contexts that reflect TIS’s mission. New challenges broadened horizons and noticeable growth, experiences that will continue to shape their learning and futures. We can’t wait to see how these experiences will positively shape their journeys!
