Music in the Spotlight

TIS recently held a concert at the M.U.S.T. auditorium that showcased both our students's musical talents and the growth of our music program. The event featured a variety of performances, blending intimate chamber ensembles with larger symphonic works, highlighting talents from Grades 7 through 12.

Performing groups included the TIS String Quartet, TIS String Orchestra, TIS Brass Quintet, TIS Flute Choir, and the TIS Big Band. This diverse lineup demonstrated the range of skills within our student body and the depth of our music curriculum.

We believe that fostering artistic expression is essential, and we ensure students have ample opportunities to perform on stage.

“Our school’s strong support for music and the fine arts has been crucial in building a creative community,” said Iris Chu, Music Teacher. “We are thrilled to provide our students with opportunities to perform and grow as musicians.”

While learning an instrument in the classroom is important, performing on stage in front of a live audience truly enhances confidence and character. These experiences help them develop essential organizational skills, recognize their role within a group, and cultivate a strong sense of support for one another during rehearsals and performances.

"An impressive 90% of Middle School and High School students are now proficient in playing musical instruments, reflecting the success of our music program" says Ms. Chu.

The concert attracted an enthusiastic audience, including kindergarten and elementary students, as well as around 50 parents and staff members. Attendees praised the event for its focus on student accomplishments and TIS’s commitment to arts education.

This concert is just one of many throughout the year that highlights our dedication to supporting our students in their artistic endeavours and passions beyond the classroom. We look forward to more exciting performances in the future!
