May 15, 2025

After a successful season the TIS robotics team 85301 “No!” took their skills to the world stage. From May 5th to 8th, the team competed in the Vex Robotics World Championship 2025 among the top 830 teams out of 13,000 teams from 80 countries. The event was full of highlights such as walking out in the Parade of Nations representing Macao, making connections and alliances from all over the world, playing and watching top level robotics.

For the first two days the team set up 16 hours worth of scrimmages with Victoria Shanghai Academy (Hong Kong), Shanghai American School, Shanghai Hongkou Robotics Club,  American School of Taichung (Chinese Taipei), Ten Ten Robotics (British Columbia), Lake George Robotics (New York),  and Happy Robot Club (Chinese Taipei). This was followed by late nights of coding and repairing the robot.

The world championship is made up of 3 stages, the first stage being qualifiers. Team No! had an impressive 7-3 record, the best of any high school in the Macao and Hong Kong S.A.R. regions. They secured their path to the second stage working with team 8889A, the state of Massachusetts’ Skill Champion. This allowed team 85301X to progress to the divisional playoffs, where they partnered with team 8223X from Beijing No.80 High School to compete in the elimination rounds.

In the playoffs Team “No!” put on a valiant effort losing before being eliminated by the NASA sponsored team “Aftershock” and Florida’s champion “Maverick Robotics”, in a close match.

We as coaches are so proud of our students. They have made the countless hours, the weekends, and the late nights worth every second. The growth they have shown in just two seasons is beyond anything we have seen in our careers - Coach Flower & Coach Li

The team then got to head to the dome where 9,000 people gathered to see the greatest robotics in the world play, as the last 10 teams fought to crown a world champion. During the finals in between matches they showed all the other awards including team No!’s VR championship!
