We extend our deepest condolences on the passing of John Crawford, a remarkable individual who was instrumental in advancing international education in Macao, Guangzhou, Sanya, Hong Kong and Phnom Penh. As a founding partner of Ernst & Young in Hong Kong, he was appointed Justice of the Peace in 1997, reflecting his commitment to community service.

Mr. Crawford was a passionate advocate for charity, serving as a founding member of the Hong Kong Institute of Directors and UNICEF Hong Kong Committee, among many other boards. His visionary leadership was instrumental in the early development of the Canadian International School of Hong Kong (CDNIS), where he spearheaded the creation of its state-of-the-art-campus, overseeing funding, design and construction.

In 2002, Mr. Crawford co-founded The International School of Macao (TIS) and, in 2014, began collaborating with partners to establish the Canadian International School of Phnom Penh (CIS). Both institutions have become leading international schools, embodying the unique qualities and culture of international education. His unwavering dedication to children’s education ensured that the schools he influenced maintained the highest international standards, developing well-rounded students equipped for future challenges.

As a beloved co-founder of our School, John Crawford’s legacy will undoubtedly continue to inspire generations. In this time of grief, we stand together in mourning the loss of such an extraordinary individual. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, colleagues and all those whose lives he touched throughout his remarkable career in education, business and community services. May his memory be a source of inspiration for future generations as they strive to make their mark in the world of education.

With the deepest sympathy,
The International School of Macao Board of Directors
