James’s educational journey began with a liberal arts degree from Bishop's University, followed by a Bachelor of Education from the University of Prince Edward Island, where he did a Specialization in International Education. His diverse teaching experience includes roles at Stanstead College in Canada and Bahrain Bayan School, where he taught the IB and IGCSE Business courses and was also an MUN Director. He further developed his expertise in Singapore as a department head and academic counsellor at the Overseas Family School, and as Head of Careers at the Australian International School.
James believes in the importance of communication, stating “I believe a triangle must exist with the student at the top of the pyramid, supported by family in one corner and the TIS community in the other, with me serving as an important contact point.”
He adds, "My extensive travels across all Canadian provinces, over 35 U.S. states, and more than 40 countries have given me a global perspective and a deep understanding of "diverse cultures".
An avid sports enthusiast, James enjoys touch rugby, futsal, and street hockey, and has a strong interest in the arts, architecture, and current events.
James views his role as expansive, believing that everyone contributes to building bridges for students' futures. He emphasizes that the support provided encompasses academic guidance—such as curriculum choices and course selection—as well as career planning. Together, they construct each student's bespoke bridge to tertiary education through comprehensive university and college counselling.
