4th Annual TIS Alumni Awards

The International School of Macao (TIS) hosted its 4th Annual Alumni Awards on June 12th, 2025, a ceremony dedicated to recognizing the remarkable achievements of TIS alumni. The event was attended by distinguished guests including DSEDJ Head of Division of Infant and Primary Education Ms. Ka Si In, Acting Consul General of Mozambique Mr. Aurélio de Jesus Chiconela, M.U.S.T. Dean at the Faculty of Medicine Professor Manson Fok, as well as representatives from the Canadian, France, British, Australian, and Macau European Chamber of Commerce, alongside TIS School Supervisor Dr. Howard Stribbell, showcasing strong community support.

This year’s first award recipient is alumna Yan Wa Li, making history as a member of the first graduating class from the Macau University of Science and Technology (M.U.S.T.) clinical medicine program. Her achievement marks a significant milestone for the region’s healthcare by becoming one of the first homegrown doctors trained by a Macau-based program.

The second award recipient is alumnus Guang “Anson” Yang, a computer science researcher, holding a PhD from Imperial College London. He has instructed 12 courses across three different departments, showcasing his significant contributions to education. Additionally, he has nine peer-reviewed publications and is recognized as an Associate Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA). As part of Neo4j research, he is currently developing the next-generation graph database engine, a critical platform for AI and large language model applications.

The final award recipient is alumna Kaman Ieong, an Occupational Therapist with a unique background in both interior design and healthcare. She holds a Bachelor of Interior Architecture from the University of New South Wales and a Master of Occupational Therapy from the University of Sydney. Her diverse expertise combines creative design thinking with clinical skills, allowing her to create environments that promote accessibility, comfort, and well-being for all.

In his remarks, Head of School Lorne Schmidt emphasized, “The achievements of our alumni not only reflect their personal dedication but also embody the values and education instilled at TIS. Through their courage to innovate, passion to pursue excellence, and character to embrace challenges, they truly showcase what it means to be a part of our community.”

As an academic institution committed to empowering students for lifelong success, the annual awards serve to highlight the profound impact of TIS graduates on their communities and beyond. TIS aims for this event to be a source of inspiration for current students, encouraging them to strive for ambitious dreams and aspirations, recognising that they too have the potential to make a difference in the world.
