The International School of Macao (TIS) proudly hosted its third annual TIS VEX Robotics Competition, titled  "Macau Mecha Monster Mash" on Friday, October 31st, 2025. This event brought together fourteen schools from across Asia, showcasing the talents of over 400 students, in an exciting large-scale VEX competition.

Notable guests included guest speaker Dr. Sun Qiao, Vice Dean of Innovation and Engineering at Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST). Dr. Sun inspired attendees with insights on the future of robotics in Asia, emphasizing the role of education in driving technological advancement. Overseeing the competitions as head judge was Mr. Ko Wong, a seasoned robotics expert with five years of experience at the VEX World Championships. His expertise ensured a rigorous and fair evaluation process, upholding the highest standards of competition.

The VEX World Championships is the largest robotics competition in the world, where one of our robotics teams was invited to compete in May of this year, in Texas, USA. There, they went head-to-head with the world’s top competitors, representing TIS and Macao on the international stage. The "Macau Mecha Monster Mash" thus provided the perfect platform for these accomplished students to share their skills with their peers, honing in on the skillset that landed them in the biggest international robotics competition, while lighting the way for others to follow in their footsteps.

“Competitions like these allow student centered learning like nothing else. Our students have demonstrated the virtue of gracious professionalism by hosting their own events, and working to grow our STEM community,” emphasized TIS Secondary Computer Science Teacher and Robotics Coach Robert Flower “It is through these hands-on experiences that they truly develop the soft skills and technical skills to thrive in STEM fields”

The TIS Robotics Competition stands as a testament to the School’s commitment to equipping students with cutting edge STEM skills and innovative knowledge, propelling them toward educational excellence. Through this program, TIS aims to foster creativity and problem-solving in the next generation of engineers and innovators.
